Broadcasting online 24 hours a day, NSR is the voice of Newcastle University students. We are an award winning station and strive to provide an excellent service to the student community, scheduling both daytime and specialist after-hours content.
Mixing cutting edge music of all genres with the latest news and reviews, this is not your ordinary radio station. It is an essential service which – as well as being engaging and enjoyable for all who listen – provides development opportunities for students interested in news and sports, journalism, music and entertainment, marketing and technology.
One of the (many) great things about NSR is that it’s so easy to get involved – whatever your talents may be. Perhaps you would like to try your hand at presenting, or maybe your band could perform a live session in the studio? Do you have the business savvy or artistic flair to lend a hand to the marketing team? Any aspiring journalists – head for the News team! Technical geeks and cool, musical cucumbers – we are (we think) the most diverse society in the university. The only real requirement we ask for is that you just show up and be yourself. Head on over to our ‘Get Involved‘ page for more information.
NSR is one of the most inclusive societies at the universities – No matter who are you or what you enjoy listening to, as long as you’re a student of Newcastle or Northumbria, you can join.

What We Do
Over the past few years we have come on leaps and bounds. In 2013-14, we had the great honour of hosting the Student Radio Association Conference – a national conference with delegates coming from every university or college based radio station coming from every area of the UK, as well as guest speakers from Greg James, Scott Mills and many more. NSR has also organised a live, intimate session with We Are Scientists, and for the first time broadcast live from Gateshead Stadium for the annual rugby varsity match, Stan Calvert. These are just a few of the many things we’ve achieved, not to mention that we’ve had a whole new studio put in and a fancy new website created.
Our aim is to cover the best of university life and beyond. If you’ve got an idea of how we can improve our output – if you think we’re missing a genre, or our news is out of date, or you think you can help improve our exposure to other students – join us, boost your CV, and live your media dreams…sort of.
